The Albany Cougars MTB racing team competes against Berkeley HS, El Cerrito HS,
Redwood, Drake and about 30 other Northern California high schools during a 6
race season.
The 2008 season starts in January, with training starting in November. We are working our way towards the NorCal State Championships in May 2008.
Boys race in 4 divisions (Frosh, Soph, JV, Varsity), and girls race in 3 divisions (Frosh/Soph, JV, Varsity). Team scoring is based on both boys and girls results. To win, teams must do well in both girls and boys divisions.
Races are typically 2 laps for Freshman Boys and Frosh/Soph Girls, 3 laps for Soph Boys & JV, and 4 laps for Varsity. Each lap is approx 5-6 miles, and the courses get a bit harder as the season progresses.
